Do you have a Facebook friend who constantly posts annoying political rants?
Or one who can't stop whining about a failed relationship?
What about the friend who just received their latest shipment of whatchamacallit from XYZ MLM -- and they just can't wait to tell you about it?
Man, there are some annoying people on Facebook!
And there were times when I just unfriended these schmoes. After all, you can only take that 14th syrupy engagement photo for so long.
But wait!
Instead of going straight for the "Unfriend" button and creating that inevitably awkward encounter when you bump into the person at the grocery store or bar -- just stop following that friend instead.
Not sure how this works?
Great, that's why I wrote this post. ;)
How to Unfollow Annoying People on Facebook (Who You Can't Unfriend)
This simple trick helps you remove the annoying clutter from your news feed.
And the cool thing is, as you stop following more and more annoying people, you start seeing posts in the feed from friends you haven't heard from in a while -- people whose content Facebook had been filtering out.
I often wonder what some people are up to after realizing I haven't seen any Facebook posts from them in a while. But when I visit their profile I find that they've posted 3 times in the past 12 hours.
WTF?!
I don't see ALL the posts from ALL my friends in my news feed?!
Nope.
So unfollowing people you don't want to hear from will create more space for the posts from people you DO want to hear from -- the ones you may not have heard from in years.

If nothing else, it's fun tinkering with the news feed to see how Facebook's algorithm responds.
And it's actually super easy.
1. Visit the friend's profile and unfollow them there
Just click on their profile pic, go to their profile page and you'll see something like this:
That means you're following them and their posts can show up in your news feed.
Just click the "Following" button to unfollow them.
This technique has removed several people from my news feed -- people whose posts weren't interesting and who were robbing precious space in the feed from people I wanted to see.
And I haven't unfriended anyone... out of sight, out of mind!
You can follow them again whenever you want and your friends won't know that you stopped following.
2. Unfollow a friend directly from the news feed
You actually don't have to visit a friend's profile to stop following them on Facebook.
You can do it straight from the news feed.
Find a status update in the feed from a friend you want to unfollow and click the down arrow in the upper right corner of the post. The drop-down menu will look like this:
Click Unfollow:
And poof! They're gone.
And most importantly, you've made room for more interesting friends to enter your news feed.
Tinker With Your News Feed
I've had lots of fun filtering friends in and out of my news feed.
And I'm quickly realizing that I don't see as much junk anymore -- and the quality of content in my feed has increased by leaps and bounds. So I highly recommend you try this.
What about you? What annoys you most about the content you're seeing on Facebook?
Will you stop following some of your friends to see how it impacts your feed?
